Cold Laser Therapy
Pain Relief At The Speed Of Light
About Cold Laser Therapy:
This is a non-surgical, non-drug approach to treating many conditions. Cold lasers emit visible coherent light that is focused on injured areas. Studies show that cold therapy increases energy production at the cellular level. This energy increases microcirculation which reduces inflammation and enhances tissue healing within injured areas. Healing is a cellular process and light energy initiates a cascade of reactions, from the nucleus and DNA. There are many biological processes that take place in tissues that have been shown to respond to cold laser therapy. The overall effects of the treatment site are decreased pain and decreased inflammation, as well as increased range of motion.
Because the cold laser emits a low level of power output and its beam penetration is deep, it has been proven to scientifically accelerate and enhance the body' natural defense and ability to repair itself when injured. Initially, swollen tissue prevents movement of damaged tissue.
How the Laser Therapy Works:
When the body has an injury the cells are damaged, they do not function within the normal parameters. When a cold laser is applied to the injured area, it sends a stimulated light of a special wave length deep into the affected area. The Laser penetrates at least 2 - 4 inches deep and signals your damaged cell to start producing more energy. This produces a flow on healing responses in your body, reducing inflammation and thereby reducing or eliminating your pain. Treatments take only a few minutes; however the therapeutic effect will continue to work for you long after you leave the office.
Dues it hurt? How does it feel?
There is little or no sensation during the treatment. Occasionally one feels a mild, smooth warmth or tingling.
How long does each treatment take?
The typical treatment duration is 5-15 minutes depending on the size of the area being treated and the severity.
Are there any side effects or associated risks?
During the 20 years of healthcare provides all over the world, very few side effects have been reported. If a patient is allergic to light then they may get a rash or blister for a few days. Occasionally some old injuries or pain syndromes may feel aggravated for a few days, as the healing response is more active after treatment.
How long before the results are felt?
You may feel improvement in your condition (usually pain reduction) after the very first treatment. Sometimes you will not feel improvement for a number of treatments. This does not mean that nothing is happening. Each treatment is cumulative and results are often felt after 3-4 sessions.
